SM, the country’s biggest retailer and property developer, is bringing to the country its new value-based, contact-less, smart card payment service dubbed e-PLUS Tap to Pay powered by NFC technology.
NFC, or Near Field Communication, is a relatively new standard for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimeters. This technology has been leveraged by a number of establishments worldwide as a means of accepting and giving payments in financial transactions.
Now available at all e-PLUS stations in SM Cinema branches nationwide, the card is reloadable in a number of convenient ways. The service enables users to have all-in-one cashless transactions in all SM passenger terminals, SM parking buildings, SM Tickets, Mall of Asia Arena, Science Discovery Center, SM Bowling, SM Ice Skating, Storyland, SM Cinemas, Directors Club Cinemas, IMAX Theaters and Snacktime. According to the company, soon it will also be accepted in all SM retail stores and merchants all over the country. In the future, it is also foreseen to be used in other applications such as in public transportation, tollways and remittances.
