Sony Announces The HDR-GWP88V: a Waterproof Handycam with Projector

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

If you love the great outdoors, just like me, then you must know the hassle and headache of bringing along your gear and worrying whether they are safe from the rain or whether that recent 5meter drop your backpack suffered did not damage your DSLR inside. To help you out, Sony recently introduced its latest Handycam for the adventure lovers out there, the HDR-GWP88V.

Waterproof up to 33ft, this Handycam is also freezeproof, shockproof and dustproof, making it virtually indestructible. Add up to that is the built-in projector onto the device, which means you can instantly watch videos you just took minutes ago anywhere and anytime. Now, that’s just cool!

The HDR-GWP88V packs a 20.4MP CMOS sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 to f/3.4. The projector is located opposite the 3inch, LCD touchscreen display. It is capable of throwing images between 1.6feet to 6feet without any quality degradation. The Handycam features a built-in 16GB internal storage alongside a microSD expansion slot with 64GB maximum capacity.

The Sony HDR-GWP88V is already available for an SRP of P34,999. It has two color options: white and black, and comes with a Sony waterproof case, wide-angle lens converter, extra battery and a 16GB microSD card as freebies for every purchase.

Water-proof everything with NeverWet!

For people like me who has invested a lot on their gadgets and smartphones, we could get a bit anxious and paranoid about having our stuff wet whenever we go near a swimming pool or whenever we hangout near the beach. Worse, most of the time, people nowadays tend to bring their gizmos anywhere, even in the bathroom, thus increasing the chances of slipping them onto a wet surface and making them really expensive paper weight.

Luckily for us, the folks at NeverWet have developed an interesting new product that completely repels water and heavy oils. The NeverWet technology, dubbed as super hydrophobic coating, boasts about five key applications: Anti-wetting, anti-icing, anti-corrosion, anti-bacterial and self-cleaning. Basically, this means any object coated with it literally can’t be touched by any liquid, making it virtually 100% waterproof! You don’t believe me? See the video below!

Unbelievably great, isn’t it? Imagine what this technology could do should they become mainstream. Shirts would never be stained during meals, shoes would never need cleaning or brushing, and your oh-so-beloved iPhone can now easily double as an underwater camera without any case! Man, I can’t wait until this technology comes to our shores…

NeverWet is backed by Ross Nanotechnology, LLC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ross Technology Corporation. Ross Technology Corporation has been in business since 1962 and occupies four separate plants in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Lazada celebrates its 1st birthday with $100M funding and its first mobile app

Lazada, arguably one of the biggest online retailers in Southeast Asia, just celebrated its first year anniversary with a bang. Joining existing investors Holtzbrinck Ventures, Kinnevik, Summit Partners and Tengelmann Group, Verlinvest, a Belgian holding company, invests an additional $100M into the website’s parent company in Germany.

After only a year since its introduction, Lazada just surpassed 1M online orders. This is where Verlinvest Chairman Frédéric de Mevius gets his confidence in the venture. According to him, “we are thrilled to join Lazada as a partner of Rocket Internet and an investor, the company’s scale and achievements after only one year of operations are highly impressive. Given the management’s track record and the region’s macro outlook we are very confident in Lazada’s future.”

A large chunk of the Verlinvest funding will be used to further improve delivery time and customer satisfaction with the company. To accomplish this, Lazada will be investing in its IT infrastructure in the foreseeable future. Complementing this strategy is the company’s announcement of its new mobile application to provide its customers a fast and intuitive shopping experience even on-the-go. Already available in Android and coming soon in iOS, the app uses an advanced internal search engine to allow users to explore products by categories, brands, price and more. Using the app, customers are able to discover amazing deals and discount vouchers to use, not to mention exclusive updates on special promos and offerings.

For Android phone users, you may download the app from the Google Play Store here.

Why buy a sports car?

Just recently, we talked about why should you opt for a manual transmission compared to an automatic one. Now, we tackle another important issue one faces when one finally decides to ditch his/her old ride to swap for a new one: should I buy that sports car I’ve long been drooling for?

To help you out, we give you four compelling reasons why you should buy that sports car you’ve been dreaming about.

Phenomenal Driving Experience

With sports cars primarily built for speed and acceleration, it is in their DNA that they are just downright fun to drive. Partly this is due to the light but durable materials used in manufacturing these vehicles, bust most of the time, this is brought about by the insanely huge and fast engines they install under the hood. With V6 and V8 engines common to most sports cars, you are surely going to have fun cornering and speeding on the highways with these cars. Of course, when doing so, do take note of the speed limit and traffic regulations on the area for everybody’s safety.

More Bragging Rights

Admit it. For most of us, this one is arguably one of the primary reasons for getting a sports car. What’s a better way of getting attention and making a statement than driving around in a Ferrari that packs 400 horses under the hood. More importantly, for guys out there, having a sports car adds a gazillion more pogi points to your overall appeal.

Sheer Beauty and Appeal

These days, cars do not only serve as a means to transfer from one place to another. Similar to mobile phones, watches, luxury bags and fancy clothes, cars now serve as a fashion statement and a testament to just how successful and powerful an individual really is. Of course, if you want a better sense of individuality, or if you want to make a lasting good impression to your peers, driving a high-performance vehicle surely does the trick compared to being seen cruising on a Vios or a Corolla. Believe me, I’ve been (and still currently is) there.

High Resale Value

Depreciation is part and parcel of owning a vehicle. And at the very second you turn the ignition key, your car is just not of the same monetary value as it first rolled out of the factory. As such, sports cars, with their inherent beauty, quality and elegance, are more likely to retain a high resale value than their lesser-gifted peers in the industry. This makes them a very good investment which should provide any owner great return-of-investment down the road. Do take note, however, that there is a flip-side to this as owning and maintaining sports car may also entail higher costs than consumer models.

Best Speaker Docks for your Lightning Connector

Do you have the newest iPhone 5 or iPad Mini, and wondering what accessories to pair with your device? A few weeks ago, we’ve featured a handful of alternative chargers for your iOS devices. And while those are pretty interesting, speaker docks are more utilitarian and enjoyable addons. The problem, however, with Apple’s newest gadgets, is that the Lightning connector they have been promoting isn’t necessarily a favorite amongst accessory manufacturers. As such, only a handful of quality speaker docks compatible with the new connectivity port are available in the market today. Which one to choose and which one to pass up? We’ve compiled the best we’ve seen so far to help you out. Enjoy!

Another one from JBL, this one’s a tad expensive with its P17,000 price tag. However, performance can surely be expected with its 11watt full-range drivers and 4.5inch subwoofer. More so, the JBL OnBeat Rumble may be returned to the manufacturer at no extra costs should you feel that it performs poorly than expected.
